We love that one of our goals at Hearts of Hope International is to empower women. Naomi is a hard-working woman who is passionate about hairdressing. With the help of our donors, we granted her an 80% scholarship to spend six months apprenticing at a local salon.
Here is Naomi’s story in her own words: “My name is Naomi and I am a Matathia resident. I was born and brought up in Kangundo in Machakos County. I come from a family of eight children, being the fifth born. I went to Mkuyuni primary school where I studied up to grade eight. After school I stayed home with my parents helping them in the farm. My parents were Christians and took me to church at an early age. I could not continue with my high school education due to lack of school fees. After several years I moved to Nairobi looking for a job, where I was employed as a house girl. I worked for five years and in the process I met my husband there. I got married and that is when I moved to Matathia to my husband’s home up to date. I am now married with two children. I have always wanted to do a hairdressing course since that is my passion. I would like to do my course and be able to take care of myself. I am obedient and a God fearing woman ready to serve him.”
